Ask five people what homeschool freedom is and you are likely to get five different, valid answers.  Whether homeschool freedom means you can select the math program that fits your child best or that you are free to choose homeschool over corporate education; homeschool freedom matters to all parents.  Perhaps it is more accurate to say Homeschool Freedom is Educational Freedom.  Whether the education is public school (virtual or brick and mortar) or private school(at home or in a traditional building), educational freedom is when the parents are the ones directing the schooling.  Parents must have the right to raise their children in the way that benefits them the most – according to the parents, not some standardization or broad rule.  Homeschool freedom should not be taken for granted.

Here in Indiana, we have great freedom in how we choose to educate our children.  We do not have arbitrary requirements on hours per day or text book selections.  When we choose to home educate, which is non-accredited private schooling, we do not have the hoops of standardized testing to jump through.  We choose the ways and means of the daily education.  The selections and possibilities are vast (attending the convention can help to investigate your options and narrow the choices).  But they are your decisions, not a committee’s or superintendent’s

Homeschool Freedom Matters

Across the country and the world we are seeing more and more parental rights taken away or ignored.  We must not rest in the freedoms we have.  Homeschool freedom should not be taken for granted.  Be aware and be involved in the legislative actions that may steal away your parental freedoms.  Join the Freedom Watch email list to keep up with the relevant government happenings.  Join in the Home School Day at the State Capitol, Tuesday January 26th.  Meet with your legislators to let them know homeschool freedom matters to you.  There are numerous activities planned from State House tours to historical re-enactors to an opportunity to see how a bill becomes a law.  The event is free, but registration is strongly encouraged for planning purposes.
