Once again, we will hide a letterbox for the students to locate at Home School Day at the State Capitol. Last year, we hid one in honor of Indiana’s Civil War Governor, Oliver Morton.

Our students learned about him and his statue that is located that is located at Capitol Avenue and Market St. They learned why he has an important part in Indiana’s history.

To learn the basics of letterboxing, check out this link.

If you plan to participate in the letterboxing at State Capitol Day, you will need to bring a few things with you.  A rubber stamp, pen, ink pad, and small notebook.

This year, we will learn about the statue located at the corner of Washington St. and Capitol Ave.

Our stamp will honor Thomas A. Hendricks.

The Thomas A. Hendricks stamp and logbook will be hidden in this small gray box shown below.  Your State Capitol Day program will provide the clues to locate it.

Your students will stamp Hendricks in the logbook they bring from home. If you brought your own stamp from home, add it to the Thomas A. Hendricks logbook as shown in the picture (below).  Use the pen to add your Trail Name, date, and your town. (A Trail Name is a name you make-up.)  If you can read the small logbook below, you will see I wrote:  KetFam, 1-26-16, Guilford, IN.  Letterboxes are hidden all over the world, and it is fun to see who has found them.  They may even be hidden in your own town!  Discreetly put it back in its hiding place for the next family to find.

IAHE’s goal is that our Indiana home educated children will know their Indiana history and the important people who have helped to make the Hoosier State great!
