As you may already be aware, there are multiple threats to your homeschool freedom. Are homeschool rights important to you?   Make sure your legislators know. What is a great way to show them? Attend Home School Day at the Indiana Statehouse!

IAHE has an educational, civics, and advocacy event planned for Home School Day at the State Capitol on Monday, January 22, 2018. The day begins with check in at 9:00 a.m. if you’d like to take advantage of various activities to increase your family’s learning experience.

We have events from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to help your family learn more about our state government. From 10:00 to 12:00 Proclaim will be performing in the Live Statue Hunt. Jeanette Goben from the Indiana Statehouse will be speaking on the history of our capitol at 10:00. Also at 10:00 in the Government Center Auditorium the IAHE Action and the IAHE Legislative Team will explain how a Bill becomes a Law followed by an update about various bills that we are tracking at 11:00 a.m. We are excited to announce that the D.A.S.H. Chorale will be singing and Peter Heck will be speaking at the Rally at 12:00 p.m.

Prior to the event, families should try to schedule a time to meet with their legislators. Locate your legislator here.  Your Senator may be contacted at 800-382-9467 and your Representatives at 800-382-9842 to schedule an appointment. It’s our desire that EVERY legislator meets with a homeschool family that day. It would send a powerful message to them to know that homeschool rights are important enough to take time out of your very busy schedule to come to the Statehouse.

The least expensive parking is at the Circle Centre Mall garage.  Here are directions to get from the mall garage to the Statehouse via a tunnel.  Allow at least 15 minutes walk time.

Page for A Day Program

Families with a student ages 13 and older may like to be a Page that day. The Page for the Day program is an excellent way for your student to gain a first-hand glimpse of how the legislative process works at the Indiana Statehouse. During IAHE’s Home School Day, the rest of the family will have other events in which to participate while your child serves. This program fills up quickly, so check the IN.gov website for details and deadlines.
